Scope and Method
This report forecasts US molding and trim demand in US dollars at the manufacturers’level. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of:
 molding (interior use)
 stairwork (stair systems and components for interior or exteriorapplications)
 other molding and trim products such as fireplace surrounds, mantels,and interior columns (for interior or exterior use).Total demand is also segmented by market in terms of:
 residential new construction
 residential improvement and repair
 nonresidential new construction
 nonresidential improvement and repair.Total demand and the various segments are sized at five-year intervals for historicalyears 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identificationand analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events aswell as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Changes inquantities between reported years of a given total or segment are typically provided interms of five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). For the sake of brevity,forecasts are generally stated in smoothed CAGR-based descriptions to the forecastyear, such as “demand is projected to rise 3.2% annually through 2016.” The result ofany particular year over that period, however, may exhibit volatility and depart from asmoothed, long-term trend, as historical data typically illustrate.Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided at five-year intervals with CAGRs forthe years corresponding to other reported figures.
