Scope and Method
This report forecasts US home medical equipment demand in US dollars at themanufacturers’ level. Total demand is segmented by product in terms of:
 therapeutic equipment
 patient support equipment
 patient monitoring equipment.Total demand and the various segments are sized at five-year intervals for historicalyears 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identificationand analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events aswell as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Changes inquantities between reported years of a given total or segment are typically provided interms of five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). For the sake of brevity,forecasts are generally stated in smoothed CAGR-based descriptions to the forecastyear, such as “demand is projected to rise 3.2% annually through 2016.” The result ofany particular year over that period, however, may exhibit volatility and depart from asmoothed, long-term trend, as historical data typically illustrate.Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided at five-year intervals with CAGRs forthe years corresponding to other reported figures.
