The manuscript you are about to read was never intended to be this long. It was supposedto be an essay, maybe 3-4 pages, to articulate for myself why and how the music of Rick Springfield plays such a big role in my life. What I found as I started to write was that Icouldn't adequately relate all of my feelings in just a few pages. A fair amount of background was necessary for it to all make sense – especially if I wanted to address howI ended up taking his last name as a means of moving forward. Much of what I wrote inthis story is about my personal life, and I have tied things together with my experiences atconcerts, friendships I’ve made with other fans, and moments talking with Rick. All of ithas been a journey, one that continues. All of the people represented in this book are real, though in some cases the names have been changed.I want to thank my friends who have supported me in this project, especially SharlaHibberd who has discussed, read, heard, and participated in various elements of this storyso many times she could probably tell it in her sleep. I also want to thank my family for letting me write freely, especially my mother, Madalyn. And to my Super Close Peeps, you know who you are. I love you beyond measure.Last, I want to thank Rick Springfield for being who he is and for not banning me fromhis concerts.
