Chapter III - Life-saving appliances and arrangements
The Chapter includes requirements for life-saving appliances andarrangements, including requirements for life boats, rescue boatsand life jackets according to type of ship.The International Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code givesspecific technical requirements for LSAs and is mandatory under Regulation 34, which states that all life-saving appliances andarrangements shall comply with the applicable requirements of theLSA Code.A number of serious accidents which occurred during lifeboatmaintenance, inspection and drillsled to amendments to IMOinstruments (SOLAS, LSA Code, Recommendation on testing of LSA)a number of serious accidents which occurred during lifeboatmaintenance, inspection and drills
