January 22, 2013Dear Resident:Windsor Road between Largo Drive and Roger Warlick Drive is currently designated as a Type IIIbicycle facility. A facility of this designation requires bicycles to share the road with vehicular traffic. In an effort to improve the safety of bicycle and pedestrian traffic utilizing this road; The WindsorForest Neighborhoods Association, the City of Savannah Traffic Engineering, and Mobility &Parking Departments propose to convert the Type III bicycle facility to a Type II bicycle designationfacility. A Type II bicycle facility includes a painted four-foot lane reserved on both sides of thestreet for bicycle traffic. This lane would be extended to Stillwood Road and be similar to one createdon Largo Drive north of Windsor Road.Furthermore, the plans include designating a new Type III bicycle route (shared road) fromStillwood Road to Briarcliff Circle to Deerfield Road to Windsor Road. Additionally, the plan detailsextending the bicycle path from Largo Drive and Abercorn Street that ends at Windsor Road tocontinue south to Stillwood Road. Please see the attached proposal bicycle path map from theWindsor Forest Neighborhoods Association. The separate bicycle lane on Windsor Road, between Largo Drive and Stillwood Road; plus theextended bicycle lane on Largo Drive will require the removal of on-street parking to provide for thesafe pedestrian and bicycle movement. Since parking removal may affect you, we are requestingyour input and comments before a recommendation is composed and submitted to the Mayor andAldermen for their approval. Please check the appropriate box on the back of this page and returnthis letter in the postage paid envelope by February 22
