MEBIDO 2012 EXTRAVAGANZA

30TH JULY, Lala Lajpat Rai College, Mumbai The BMM Department, Lala Lajpat Rai College came up with a one of a kind InitiativeMebido 2012. A week long learning, sharing, enhancing, brainstorming with the eminent media professionals from the industry. The 6day long event that commenced on 23rd July 2012 had a total of 14 seminars and saw 20 eminent speakers from different media houses and institution addressing the large number of students who attended them. There were Interactive seminars and students were exposed to actual working in the media world. It had sessions in the field of Media such as digital exposure, journalism, editing, direction, film making, event management, business journalism, social media and copywriting, photography, post production, editing, strategic planning, rural media marketing, voice over and print media. Some of the Big guns from the industry who were present throughout the week and showered there knowledge wereMubashir,Stefi,Shaista from social Seety, Freyan from Parsee Times, Vijay Pereira from Le Innovents, Suifia Khan from The Press Club, Gaurav, Ali Merchant and Jinita from Rich Boyz Entertainment, Mr. Murlidhar Swaminathan from CNBC, Vineet and Muffadal from Ignitee, Photographer Aslam Saiyad, marketing man Mr. Suman Srivastava, Balaji Teleflims editing and post production team- Mr. Vikas Sharma and Mr. Ravi Bhattaria, Rohan Mascarenhas from Percept, Smit Rambhia, Voice over artist Mr. Kaushik, Times of India Correspondent- Shreya Bhandari. It was for the first time that such an event was conducted by any under graduation college in Mumbai which was purely based on academics, intellect, and also high on IQ. It was the vision of the BMM Co-ordinator Mrs Sangeeta Makkad and the Consolidated efforts of the Core Committee also including each and every student and staff of the department who all made the event possible. The term Mebido was coined by Zenobia Shaikh, a TYBMM student of the college and it meant Our Media Drive very well explaining the ambitions of the 6 day extravaganza. The Vision of the Event was very clear from the day it was given a thought, to ensure academic and intellectual challenge, and mentor all in a caring, supportive environment, Consistently renewing the promise to be the most rigorous and caring academic institution, to provide visionary leadership, and to create a symphony of opportunity for personal and professional growth. An affair like this could not have happened overnight. The wheels started rolling weeks ago. A detailed research was carried out, a layout plan was made and each and every aspect of pre planning was given due consideration. The event had two TYBMM students as Chairperson- Rasika Ajgaonkar and Dev Marwa, while there were more than dozen of them

heading various other departments like Planning, hospitality, creatives,PR, Logistics, Security, Photography, Marketing and Social Media. Apart from the core-committee there were other leaders too who worked efficiently and took special initiative without having a formal positions. Sponsors were managed, dates of the speakers were finalized, banners were put up and invitations were sent to different colleges across the city. The event got started as planned and each speaker had something different and unique to share all throughout the 6days starting from 23rd July to 28th July. All the speaker and guest of honors were felicitated with a sacred Tulsi plant and chocolates as a token of appreciation and also propagating the idea of eco-friendly society. Some of the guests who took time out and graced the occasion with their presence were Cyrur Dastur from Shamian, Editor Sundeep Mohnot, Darayus Bacha. The seminars were conducted all day long from 0900hrs to 1500hrs throughout the week and saw a wonderful and highly motivated crowd which maintained the decorum at every point of time. The breath taking lectures by professionals and their presentations enlightened everyone; it further saw the crowd understand the outside world better and made them realize how difficult it is to work out of your comfortable zones. This was a learning curve for all of them and gave them a treasure to safeguard all their lives. It was also an opportunity for students to face these challenges themselves as many of the speakers and guests even went out to offer internships to the students and showed them the way to the various avenues opened in industry. After six rigorous days of continuous bombardment of knowledge, The closing ceremony on the 30th July saw the Principal of Lala Lajpat Rai College, Mrs Neelam Arora mam giving her motivating speech followed by the head of co-ordinator Mr. Arun Pujary and in the presence of all the other faculty member. Now it was time to appreciate and acknowledge the hardwork of the team behind the successful event. BMM Co-ordinator Mrs. Neelam Makkad along with Mr. Arun Pujary gave away the certificates to the entire Committee and also to some selected students who took special initiative in the organizing of this affair. And now it was time to announce the Next years Committee who would take forward the baton from the present one and which was announced by the chairpersons of Mebido 2012. All the New Committee members were acknowledged by the audience and with the closing speech by Mrs. Sangeeta Makkad and as the vote of thanks were proposed by the hosts it was the end of an outstanding affair that attracted a wide number of entries from students across various prestigious colleges of the city. Not only did it touch each and every person who witnessed it but also it became an inseparable part of the college and an event marked in the calendars of many and awaited eagerly.
