Annual Public Sector Conference
This year’s Annual Public Sector Conerence
was a resounding success with a sellout crowd
and great presentations rom speakers like Ken Smith, Ann Sherry, Helen Silver and
Carmel McGregor.
Concurrent sessions on topics such as
inrastructure, social inclusion and attraction
and retention were also very popular while
the nal panel session with participants rom
the Prime Minister’s 2020 panel receivedrave reviews. Many o the presentationsare available to watch on our website, along with presentation notes so head to
www.qld.ipaa.org.au to check them out.
Council Elections & AGM
September saw our AGM introduce some
new aces to the IPAA Queensland Council– congratulations to Frank Prostamo and
Fiona Krause who have joined our Council or
the frst time. I certainly look orward to working
with you both over the coming years.
We also welcomed back some amiliar
aces and sadly said goodbye to one o our
dedicated Councillors, Anita Hicks, who has
decided to take a break rom Council this term.
My thanks go to Anita or all o her hard work
over the last ew years. Also leaving Council
was Jude Munro as Jim Varghese steppedinto the role o Immediate Past President.
Having worked with Jude or some time nowI know the commitment and hard work she
put into the Council and thank her or her
outstanding dedication and contribution.
A ull list o your current Councillors can beound in this edition.
An exciting addition to the AGM program
was a presentation rom one o our youngproessionals, Chandni Gupta. Chandni told
o her experiences completing an internship
at the UN in New York, a story she shares with
us in this edition. Her ascinating journey isa antastic reminder o the fexibility on oerin the public sector.
Annual President’s Address
By the time this edition goes to print the
2008 Annual President’s Address will have
taken place. This year we were lucky enoughto have Hon Dr Geo Gallop AC accept ourinvitation to share his thoughts on ‘puttingthe public back into the public sector’.Another highlight o the 2008 President’s
Address is the presentation o a $10,000
cheque to the Hannah’s Chance Foundation. All year we have been raising money throughour events, and together with a contribution
rom IPAA Queensland we have hit the
$10,000 mark. This is a antastic eort which
I’m sure will make a big dierence to the
oundation. My thanks go to all o you whohave contributed across the year!
Bring on 2009!
Already there is an exciting array o
projects in the pipeline or 2009. Final touchesare currently being made to our 2009 program
o events with an exciting new event beingintroduced to recognise and reward the bestand brightest the public sector has to oer.
Planning is also underway or our suite o training programs and or our research
initiatives like the Principles o Good Practice
