Why Are So Many Unemployed?
Work is so important it makes me tired just thinking about it. And yes, Ihave written about this before. Still, I can’t resist a little additionalexplanation on what is going wrong in America. Why are so manyunemployed?Our politicians insist they can increase employment, fix the problem. But theGovernment has done nothing since passing a $787 billion “stimulus” in2009 which was 1/3 tax cuts and did nothing to address the causative factorsof high unemployment. Now, almost four years later......
claim the problem is taxes are too high and we have too muchdebt. And the Government is much too big, except for the military whichshould be even bigger. The Republicans demand we cut spending onentitlements but they never specify which ones, apparently hoping theDemocrats will define them so they can take the resulting political heatinstead.
want to raise taxes and borrow more money and then quicklyspend it. They think this will get us going again. Democrats, being thecompassionate types they are, long to give lots of money to the unemployedand take good care of our seniors. We’ll fix the debt problem later they say. Never put off today what you can put off mañana. Neither approach will work, of course. Neither party wants to address thefundamental reasons on how we got into the present mess. Again, asObama’s second term opens, he and our Congress ignore the problem.We live in remarkable times, a new era of make-believe, fantasy, denial, andgridlocked economics. We are governed by 537 mentally-compromisedelected do-nothings. Not only do politicians not know how to fix the problem, they don’t even know (or admit) what the problem is. Let’s find
