Reagan'scalllast

inaspeechtotheBritishparliament,fora"crusadeforfreedom"tooverthrowCommunism

theworld.They.recallthestatementbyNationalSecurityCounciladviserRichardPipes,shortlyaftertheReaganinaugurationlastyear,
that
theSovietUnionfacedthechoice
of
"changingtheCommunistsysteminthedirectionoftheWest
or

but

sitesandneighborhoodsforconcentration,Spartacistcampaignorganizersplannedtofollowuponthehigh
WorkersVanguard
streetsalesandsuccessfulsubscriptiondriveamongblacksandunionmembers.TheSpartacistcandidatesdidbestinblackandHispanicdistrictswherehistoricallyelectionturnoutshavebeenlower.Thosewho
don't
sharethe"Americandream"havefewerillusionsinthebogusparliamentarismthatcoversthecapitalistrule
of
racismandunemployment.Mostimportantwerethedozensofindividualsmetduringthecampaign,thethoughtfulandseriousresponseto
our
politicswhichcamefromblackworkers,most
of
themunionistsintheirlate20sand30s.Citywide,BradleyandColemanreceived3.5percent
of
thevote.ButinnumerousprecinctsinthemainlyblackBayview/Hunters
Point
andWesternAddition,andinparts
ofPotrero
HillandtheLatinoMissionDistrict,thevoteforColeman/Bradleyranupto
