Freeway Corridor Study
Project Brie
North-South
January 30 & 31, 2013
PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING 2
Good Hope Road
This project brie discusses the issues associated with the GoodHope Road interchange, including its ramps and ramp intersectionsas well as the adjacent Good Hope Road and Port WashingtonRoad intersection. It also briey describes a range o alternativesdeveloped and how they address these issues, as well as comparingthe impacts and costs associated with these improvements.
Issues in the Area:
Proximity o Port Washington Road with ramp intersection createscongestion
Inadequate ramp storage
High trac volumes/congestion
Substandard acceleration and deceleration distances
 Alternatives Presented
Alternatives to be evaluated in the environmental impact statement includeNo-Build and Build alternatives. The No-Build alternative leaves the system asit currently exists and serves as a base alternative or comparison. The Buildalternatives presented tonight are shown below.
SPOT IMPROVEMENT
Parallel Entrance/Exit Ramps
- Provides longer transition lengths toaccommodate today’s design standards.
RECONSTRUCTION
Diamond Interchange
- Standard interchange will increase ramp length to today’s design standards. It movesthe northbound ramp intersection urther away rom Port Washington Road.

Split Diamond Interchange
- Using Green Tree Road to the south, the interchange is split with the northboundof and southbound on ramps at Green Tree Road and the northbound on and southbound of ramps at GoodHope Road. This alternative distributes the high volumes o trac between two locations instead o oneenabling the diamond interchange conguration to operate more eciently.
Single Point Interchange
- The northbound and southbound ramp intersections are brought to one point inthe center o the bridge over I-43. This increases the distance rom Port Washington Road. It also creates onlyone intersection capable o handling higher volumes o trac.
Horseshoe Interchange
- Northbound and southbound entrance ramps are combined. Northbound andsouthbound trac is split on the ramp allowing or a longer weave section.
