Description

We are pleased to provide you with this analysis of a Washington Post (WP) story that was published on July
6, 2008 titled “Sweetheart Deals”. The story implied that Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson
illegally gave contracts to his friends based on campaign contributions given to him during his re-election.
This is a charge that literally every politician faces, but what is unique about this charge in our opinion is that
it is levied at some and not all. The aim of these charges always seems to fi nd itself on the doorstep of our
minority leadership. In our humble opinion, the story is fi lled with half truths, a distortion of the facts and
a systematic failure that selectively omit key evidence that would eliminate any cloud of suspicion. We will
argue that the aim of the WP reporting is not to print the truth, but just to raise suspicion. (See footnote 2
on page p.12 and 29) This is their weapon they have used consistently over the years to undermine black
political leadership and now they are trying it again on Jack B. Johnson. This is exactly what the Republicans
are doing to Barack Obama.
