Life and Career
Born 29
August 1958, eighth of ten children in an African-American working-class family. His father, Joseph Jackson was a steel-mill worker and performed with an R&B band called the Falcons.
In 1964,
Michael joined “
The Jackson Brothers
”, a
 band formed by the Jackson brothers. He joined as backup musicians, playing congas and tambourine.
 At the age of 8, he began to share the lead vocals with his brother, Jermaine. At this point the band
changed its name to “
The Jackson 5 
 Rolling Stone
magazine described Michael as “
a prodigy
” with “
overwhelming musical gifts
The Jackson 5 
” were signed to
until 1975. At this point they signed to
CBS Records
. They released 6 more albums between 1976 and 1984, withMichael as the lead singer and songwriter.
He stayed at

(a subsidiary of

) for the rest of hiscareer. During this time he released 6 solo albums. (Between 1979 and 2001)
