Second Half Of Pac-12 Season Starts In L.A.
Washington (13-9, 5-4 Pac-12) will start the second half of Pac-12play the same way they began the first first half -- on the road. Theyare hoping to duplicate the perfect road record back in January tostart the conference slate, but will have a tough haul ahead withgames at UCLA (16-6, 6-3) and USC (9-13, 4-5). The Huskies willget their first look at newly renovated Pauley Pavilion when theytake on the Bruins on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. (ESPN). The Huskiesfinished the first half of Pac-12 play 5-4. Oddly enough with UW’srecent success, it is only the 6th time in 11 years under Romar thatthe Huskies reached the conference midway point with an above.500 record. Four out of the previous five times, UW would go onto make the NCAA tournament. Thursday’s game will be carried onESPN

Romar vs. USC
: 13-7• The Huskies followed up a season low 53 points vs. AZ with a season-high 96 vs. ASU. The 43 point discrep-ancy in back-to-back games is the most since they scored 102 in awin over OSU in 2011 followed by 56 in a loss at Stanford (46 pts).• UW leads the Pac-12 with 12.8 offensive rebounds per game, thanks to
Aziz N’Diaye’s
Pac-12 best 3.5 per game. Conversely, theHuskies are last with 23.1 defensive rebounds per game. Perhapsthe correlating stat is that UW is last in the conference in field goalPCT defense at .435.• The Huskies are giving up 67.3 ppg which ranks 10th overallamong league teams but would be UW’s best mark since the 2000team allowed 65.1 ppg. The previous low watermark in Romar’s ten-ure is 69.5 in 2009.• The Huskies are 2-2 at home in Pac-12 play. Only twice previouslyunder Romar have the Huskies dropped more than two home game (2003 and 2008) during conference action.

Before UCLA defeated Washington 75-69 in the Pac-12 regular season finale last year, the Huskies had wonfour straight between the two teams, the longest Husky winning streak since they won five in a row at thevery inception of the series. Overall, UCLA holds a 90-42 advantage in the series, including 60-7 in PauleyPavilion. UW is 2-8 at UCLA under Lorenzo Romar, winning in 2011 and 2006. The series started in 1937 whenthe Huskies beat the Bruins but the teams would have to wait until 1951 before facing each other. The Dawgswon two games that year and followed up with two more wins in 1952 before losing to UCLA in the first ofthree 1952 Pacific Coast Championship games. UW has won eight-straight in Seattle against the Bruins andis 32-31 all-time at home. Lorenzo Romar is 11-10 all-time against UCLA, while Ben Howland is 7-12 againstUW. Romar was an assistant four seasons at UCLA from 1993-96 under Jim Harrick. The Bruins were 97-28in those four years, won two Pac-10 titles, made the NCAA tournament four times and won the 1995 NCAAchampionship, hosted in Seattle.
