Salik, Sittie Zuleiha S.ASEAN Youth Science Summit2008 ASEAN Youth Science SummitWith the theme “Power up for the Future through Science and Technology”,Philippines hosted the first ASEAN Youth Science Summit held at the Traders Hotel inPasay City last July 8-10.The ASEAN Youth Science Summit (AYSS) is a complementary activity of theASEAN Science and Technology Week Celebration that will involve the science-inclinedyouth of the ASEAN-member nations. The AYSS is a gathering of the youth from thesaid countries to provide a venue for the next leaders of Science and Technologydevelopment to discuss with each other relevant scientific and global issues, and to orientthe ASEAN youth on the diplomatic and parliamentary ways of handling problems thataffect nations on a regional and global scale.“Through the first ASEAN Youth Science Summit (AYSS), which is aninnovation in the ASEAN Science and Technology Week Celebration, we are hopeful thatthe youth of today will turn into responsible adults who are ready to take on thechallenges they will face in the near future,” Dr. Graciano P. Yumul, ASEAN-Committeeon Science Technology Chairman and DOST Undersecretary, said.The launching of ASEAN Quest proceeded. Executive Director of ASEANFoundation Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte said, “We hope that the launching of the ASEANQuest, a challenging computer video game for young players that provides valuableinformation about ASEAN and its member countries, and the game competition that areamong the many activities during the Summit will contribute positively attaining thelaudable objectives of the ASEAN Youth Science Summit.”
