To Mayor and Council of Township of Langley:
The out side air taken into the poultry barns by huge tunnel fans becomes
contaminated as it passes the thousands of birds inside. These birds are contained in
the barns for six-month periods.
There are continuous active cycles that last for six months. The purpose is to
produce fertile eggs and it requires the active role of roosters breeding the hens in
the confinement of the buildings. An new batch is introduced after each six-month
cycle and the barns are cleaned out normally twice a year.
The tunnel fans intake and exhaust 11,000 cubic feet of air every minute. The barn
closest to our property is 400 feet long and 80 feet wide and 12 feet high. It is only
fifty feet away from the property line.
Modern poultry barns are designed to perform FIVE FULL AIR EXCHANGES
EVERY HOUR. That tells us that FOURTY SIX MILLION EIGHTY
THOUSAND cubic feet of contaminated air exhausted directly into our air space
daily.
In 224 hour period the 10 hooded tunnel fans that face directly toward our
property line exhaust fifteen million eight hundred forty thousand cubic feet of
contaminated aerosols, broiler dust, bacteria, feather fragments ,mold spores, fecal
material, on a continuous daily basis directly into our air space. Let us not forget
the already documented bird flue virus HSN1 which comes out of this type of
unnatural and artificially confined environment.
