Scope and Method
This report provides US oilfield equipment demand (used for both oil and gasexploration and production activities) and shipments in US dollars at the manufacturers’level. Total demand is segmented in terms of:
 drilling equipment
 field production machinery
 pumps and valves
 other equipment and machinery such as derricks, and surveyingmachinery and equipment.Excluded from the scope of the study are pipeline pipe, pressure pumping equipment,most types of analytical and measuring instruments, power generation systems(engines, turbines, etc), oilfield chemicals, and oilfield services.Total demand, the various segments, and shipments, are sized at five-year intervals forhistorical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from theidentification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historicaltrends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period.Changes in quantities between reported years of a given total or segment are typicallyprovided in terms of five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs). For the sake ofbrevity, forecasts are generally stated in smoothed CAGR-based descriptions to theforecast year, such as “demand is projected to rise 3.2% annually through 2016.” The

result of any particular year over that period, however, may exhibit volatility and departfrom a smoothed, long-term trend, as historical data typically illustrate.Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided at five-year intervals with CAGRs forthe years corresponding to other reported figures.
