Ohio County Local Coordinating Committee Citizens for a Drug Free Community October 15, 2012

Attendees: Amy Beckett, Brandon Bogue, Gary Eldridge, Janie Eldridge, Kara Hudepohl, Gayla Kaibel, Debra Marsh-Niccum, Deb Ranz, Elissa Pogue, Laura Rolfe, and Debbie Thomason Deborah Thomason called the meeting to order. Minutes: September minutes were discussed. A motion made by Gayla Kaibel to approve the September minutes and second by Janie Eldridge. Motion carried. Treasurers Report: Debbie Thomason presented the Treasurers report. Currently the Drug Free Fund has receipted in only $6,359.00 for 2012. The total fund balance as of Sept. 30, 2012 was $13,764.59. A motion was made by Deb Ranz to approve the Treasurers report. Gayle Kaibel seconded the motion and motion carried. Youth Report: FAD Amy Beckett reported that FAD has been meeting about once every other month. The formation of FAD was created after Monte Stiles spoke with Ohio County citizens, community leaders and law enforcement officers in February, 2012. The goal of this group is to help bring attention to the drug problems which exist in our community. FAD recently submitted a grant request through the Ohio County Community Foundation called the Summer Sizzler. The grant was in the amount of $10,000 and FAD was awarded the grant. The purpose of the grant will be for public awareness and education of drug issues. LOOK AT ARTICLE IN PAPER Elyssa Pogue stated that ASAP could also be an avenue to look to for grants as well. Laura Rolfe stated that we might want to look at a program Dearborn County has called Be the Wall Campaign. Old Business:
Red Ribbon Week: Debbie Thomason provided the council with a schedule for Red Ribbon Week. Grades K-5 will have a demonstration from the Dearborn County K-9 unit. The Middle and High School will have a gentleman from the BAAAD organization present a program on how drugs have affected his life. Citizens for a Drug Free Ohio County helps to sponsor Red Ribbon Week with a contest for students K-12. Debbie stated that she has collected all the entries for Red Ribbon Week.

Laura Rolfe also announced that in the Spring, we hope to have the Lifestyle Risk Reduction training. The training was cancelled in September due to low enrollment but with more publicity we hope to be able to fill the class.

Debbie Thomason stated that work on the Comprehensive Plan is going well.

New Business:

Debbie Thomason reminded members that year end reports are due on grants and new grant applications have been emailed out. If anyone else needs a grant application, let Debbie know. 2013 grant requests are due in by Friday, November 9th at 4:00 p.m. It was announced that BAAAD will have a program on October 28th at 6:00 at the First Baptist Church. Aaron Negangard, Prosecutor will be presenting on the alarming drug problem and what we as a community need to do.

Also, on November 4th, BAAAD will be presenting at 6:00 at Hoosier Haven Recreational Center, 212 S. Poplar for seniors. Tara Roeder, DPT will be speaking on chronic pain and addiction and safe keeping of medications.

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, November 5th at Heritage Hall in Rising Sun at 11:00. Lunch will be provided at 12:00 with Kate Keller a Senior Program Officer at the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati. Kate will present an overview of the affordable Care Act in a way that is understandable and relevant to the audience. Laura Rolf shared that one of the areas Big Sisters, Sara Chipman is receiving the Heart of Gold Award by Dearborn County Chamber. Also two other Big Sisters are receiving recognition as women of distinction. Laura stated it was nice to see these three Bigs get recognition.

Announcements:

Debbie Thomason shared with the council that Brandon Bogue just recently became a father with twin girls. All are doing well. Congrats Brandon!

Gayla Kaibel stated that Rick DeCamp would like to be placed on the email list for Drug Free. His email is: decamp.rick@yahoo.com.
