Background Information
The Waste Wise Geelong Network was launched October last year as a combinedincentive of 
EcoRecycle Victoria,
Barwon Regional Waste Management Group
And the City of Greater GeelongIt’s intention is to bring organisations together to share different strategies for wastereduction. As of February this year, more than forty businesses are members.Tailored on a business-by-business basis, allowing for maximum self-regulation while providing a broad range of resources from both the private and public sector,By July 2005, the target is to have thirty businesses certified as Waste Wise, whichwould result in a reduction of one hundred thousand tonnes of Greenhouse gases.Ultimately, however, the plan is to have more than a hundred businesses Waste-Wisecertified.
Benefits of membership to the Waste-wise Network 
As a member of the Waste-Wise network, your business will have
assistance in waste identification and reduction
an open invite to forums where you can
hear guest speakers discussing various methods on sustainable business practices
gain valuable insights from training sessions - led by skilled councilstaff 
workshop with other business owners
the opportunity to be involved in a growing collaboration betweenorganisations public and private, commercial and non-profit, to turn Geelonginto a sustainable, ‘low waste’ city
discounts on business services and similar incentives
 promotion through print and on-air media
the opportunity to develop stronger relationships with your customers, clientsand suppliers by setting an example
free use of the Waste Wise logo in your letters and promotions for two years
 presentation of a certificate and promotional material upon competition of theWaste-wise Program.By becoming a Waste-wise member, you will also be
reducing the costs incurred by your community involved in sending waste tolandfills
contributing towards a more sustainable future.
How to become a Waste Wise organisation
You too can become part of the Waste-wise network through four easy steps:1.Indicate your commitment to the philosophy of the Waste Wise program – either by formulating an environmental policy, or writing a letter of intent.2.Identify how much and what kinds of waste your organisation is generating,showing how much waste is costing you and the environment each year.
