Outfield Breakdown (option B)

Partner Warm up (2 min) 1) Block itpartners about 60 feet apart, throw each other grounders and work on blocking it (5 each) 2) Get Behind it-same as block it but working on routine fly ball and getting body behind it (5 each) 3) Sliding catch-partners about 40 feet apart. One partner runs towards the other, partner not running tosses the ball so that running partner slides to catch it (5 each) then switch partners Drop Step Drill Competition (7 min) *Very similar to option A competition but now adding throwing into the mix. *See option B appendix for a diagram of the drill. Do or Die Competition with throwing (7 min) *See Option B appendix for diagram. *You will have three groups working on do or die and throwing. *You will use the numbers on the fence as a target to throw the ball to. Fly Balls 1) Two groupshit ball in between them to work on communication 2) Reaction drilloption 1have the player turn around, coach hit the ball. The player will turn back around when hears the ball hit, locate the ball and field it. Option 2have player start facing you, hit the ball, have player do a circle, find the ball and field it. 3) Line drives 4) If timethrow some practice robbing homeruns

Option A Appendix
Drop Step Drill Competition Competition 1 Competition 2

*On GO! players will open at a 45 and sprint to touch top cone (black arrow), run forward to touch cone where coach is at (red line) then drop step at 45 and sprint (green line). Coach throws ball for player to coach while running at the 45. *Stop watch starts when you say go and stops when player catches the ball. *Do competition 1 to work on drop steps to the left then switch to competition 2. Do or Die Competition
1) Divide players into two teams. If uneven teams, one player goes twice. 2) 1 player from each team will start lying down on their back with head touching the cones circled in red. 3) The rest of the players are back behind where player A is located. 4) On GO, players laying down get up and sprint down and around second cone (green/black lines) 5) Once around the cone, team mate A rolls a ball for a do or die grounder. 6) Player that rounded cone fields the do or die and throws it back to player A. 7) First team to catch the ball gets a point. *Variation-Once player A catches the ball, he sprints down and around the cone and the next player on his team moves up to player As original spot, picks ball up and rolls a do or die, player that rounded cone fields do or die and throws the ball back at which time the person receiving the ball drops it and sprints down around the cone. This would make it a relay race and first team to finish would win.

Option B Appendix
Drop Step Drill Competition with throwing
*Everything is the same as option A but now throwing. *Use numbers on fence in left center. *Coach will say go, player opens at 45 and touches cone at top (black line) then touches bottom cone by coach (red line) then drop steps at 45 and sprints (green line) *Coach throws a ball for player to catch. *Once ball is caught, player turns and throws to number on fence. *Player gets a point for hitting any part of the number. *Stopwatch can still be used to time from Go to catch. *Can have two winners1) Fastest time, 2) most points for hitting number **Repeat drill from other side as well so that both drop steps worked on.

Variationdont use a glove. Award more points for

hitting a certain number on the fence.

Do or die competition with throwing

*divide players up into 3 groups. *Coach will hit or roll a do or die grounder one at a time to each spot. *So player in red would round cone like a do or die into the gap, field it and throw the ball at the number on the fence in left center. *Player in the middle can go either way around cone, field then throw *Player in blue rounds cone, fields the ball and throws. *Determine how many times at each spot before rotating. *Award a point for hitting the number. At the end whoever has the most points wins.

Variationaward more points for hitting

numbers on fence. Take away points for throwing it over the fence.
