OFTRIPLE RIVETED DOUBLE STRAP BUTT JOINT WITH UNEQUALWIDTH COVER PLATES[CHAIN RIVETING]
Exp. No. : Date :
Question:
Design and draw a triple riveted double strap butt

joint with unequal cover  plates for joining two plates of 20 mm thick. The allowable stresses are 50 MPa intension 40 MPa in shearing and 75 MPa in crushing. Determine the efficiency of the joint. Also draw the top view and sectional front view of the given tripleriveted double strap butt

joint with chain riveting. Show atleast three rivets.Indicate all the dimensions. Use snap head for rivets.
Given data:
1.

Nature of joint: Triple riveted double strap butt

joint2.

Thickness of plate (t) = 20 mm3.

Number of straps = 24.

Allowable tensile stress in plates (
σ

6.

Allowable crushing stress in rivets (
