Great job SMRT. The most up to date SMRT train interruption on Feb 13 between Novena and Toa Payoh as a result of a Newton MRT terminal fire offered employees taking public transport yet another factor to be late for work. Supervisors can not criticize their workers, or dock their pay, can they? If they cared enough for punctuality, they can have offerred them company cars. NewtonMRT Fire – Feb 13 SMRT Train Disruption Between MarinaBay and Toa Payoh

Good job SMRT. The latest SMRT train disruption onFeb 13 between Novenaand Toa Payoh due to a NewtonMRT station fire gave employees taking public transport yet another reason to belate for work. Bosses can’t blame their workers, ordock their pay, can they? If they cared enough for punctuality, they could have affordedthem company cars. Then again,

“Sorry boss, I’m going to be late for work.”“Again?”“Yes again, boss. SMRT Train Disruption again.”“What? Wasn’t the last one on …”“I’m not making this up boss,
 SMRT Train Disruption
betweenNovena and Toa Payoh. Newton MRT.. They have a fire.”“What? What the hell is with SMRT these days. Alright, alright… I’ll see you in the office when I see you.”That’s just one of many conversations that occurred duringthe MRT down time. Later, the unserviceable stretch extendedfrom just Novena to Toa Payoh, to include all MRT stations between Marina Bay and Toa Payoh.

… While employees with no immediate tasksand appointments get a right to be delayed, I can imagine just how sales-based and commission workers must havelost SO MUCH productivity. For bosses, it’s no good either. An additional finger-flick to the recent
tightening of foreignworker hire
. When relatives from Sydney told me over Chinese New Yearthat
Singapore’s MRT service is “so efficient”
, in comparisonto their railway system, that “always has train disruptions”, Ishould have answered “You ain’t seen nothing yet!” I sincerely hope that the regularity of SMRT train disruptions is the resultof momentary oversights, than a worn infrastructure (Sydney).

It should be, right? The SMRT Circle Line is relatively new, buthas suffered several train disruptions too, of late.Newton SMRT Train Disruption – Boy… weren’t these folksdisappointed when they heard that even trains betweenMarina Bay and Toa Payoh weren’t operating too…This morning I parked my car at Lavender St’s
 ICA carpark
to take the MRT down to Raffles Place to manually drop somedocuments off at SGX Centre – to save on ERP charges andexpensive, time-consuming car parking. Little did I expect thatI’d be in the perfect perspective to report on the latest SMRTmockery, the Feb 13 SMRT Train Disruption because of a fireat Newton MRT.
SMRT Train Disruption ExtendsFurther – No Train Service BetweenMarina Bay and Toa Payoh
No Trains Working From Marina Bay to Toa Payoh – Good JobSMRT Train Disruption Feb 13 Although my origin and destination were along the East-WestLine, there were still delays en-route. I can’t see what bearingthe northern commotion had on my train ride. It took anunjustifiable 12 minutes. Boarded at 9.35am, arrived 9.47am.It stalled for a moment at Bugis MRT, then just before City Hall MRT and AGAIN just before Raffles Place MRT. I did alsonote the same train did stall at the station for a while, prior tomy boarding. On previous occasions where train frequencies were reduced, supposedly to ensure smoother operation, and,the un-related delays I seen today, I can’t help but wonder if it’s the result of mis-management, or cost-cutting to save up topay the next fine from LTA. Then, they even ceased ALL north- bound trains from Marina Bay!

Tweets on #SMRT Train Disruption andthe Newton MRT Fire on Feb 13
Newton SMRT Train Disruptions 13 Feb Announcement by PRC ilovenys An interesting observation was that the initial announcementsplayed were by a PRC staff, whereby I’m sure there were nativespeakers who could have spoke more clearly. By coincidence,it was after this tweet that I heard
SMRT Train Disruption and  Bus Bridging Service announcements
read by a Malay womaninstead.Newton Fire SMRT Train Disruption Feb 13The SMRT hash tag twitter feed was rife with scornful ridiculeand hate over this SMRT train disruption between Novenaand Toa Payoh. Mr Brown posted a tongue-in-cheek remark that suggested SMRT hadn’t had enough of CNY, and othersadded SMRT was hence “eating snake”, a Hokkien expressionmeaning “slacking around”. Several preferred that SMRTcould be forthcoming over the Newton MRT fire, than merely communicating that there was “an incident” that occurred – Itoo, don’t think a mere “incident” constitutes fire trucks andambulance on site. Others scoffed that
 SCDF was doing abetter job
of up-to-the-minute reporting, versus “hour-late”delayed status updates from SMRT.Newton SMRT Train Disruption – Comments onTwitterFinally,
I want to give my kudos to the SMRT crew
whoassisted tirelessly in marshaling train commuters at the various MRT Stations. They performed their tasks like afamiliar drill – unlike permitting ensuing pandemonium in theearliest incidences. It’s indeed regrettable that they had somemuch practice to get proficient at such scenarios.Frequent SMRT Train Disruptions Breed Good MarshallingSkillsJust a personal thought on today’s Newton MRT Fire and theSMRT train disruption between Marina Bay and Toa Payohthis Feb 13, not to be taken as professional advice – perhapsSMRT infrastructure personnel should spend more time onthe front line operations as part of their job training.
