New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U) WalkthroughWorld 1: Acorn PlainsAcorn Plains-1: Acorn Plains WayWelcome to my playthrough on New Super Mario Bros. U! I
ʼ
ve been excited for thisgame for so long! This level is a basic grassy level, which introduces the Acorn Mushroom; this givesMario the Flying Squirrel Power-Up! When you shake the Wii Remote, Mario will fly! Hecan also glide, and can even cling to walls. However, there are these squirrel creaturescalled Waddlewings that will try to hurt Mario, so avoid them.I should also note that unlike the previous NSMB games, all of the levels in this onehave actual names, which is pretty cool.Acorn Plains-2: Tilted TunnelThis is an underground level (Yeah!) which features many Piranha Plants. Mario willoften be hopping across these crystals that sometimes move and are used as platforms. You
ʼ
ll actually need these crystals as a boost to the Hidden Exit in this level...Acorn Plains-3: Yoshi HillThis level introduces Yoshi to the game, and he can, as usual, eat up enemies and dothe Flutter Jump. Monty Moles are in the level as well, but they
ʼ
re not a huge problembecause Yoshi can eat them up.Acorn Plains-Blooper: Blooper
ʼ
s Secret LairThis underwater level (Sigh) introduces Bloopers to the game. It also features movingPipes with currents. The water currents from these Pipes will often push you in a certaindirection, so you must be careful. You
ʼ
ll also need the current to push you into some ofthe Star Coins here.Acorn Plains-Tower: Crushing Cogs TowerThe first Tower level, Crushing Cogs Tower is pretty cool! Mario must hop across thesemoving cogs and also avoid being crushed by them.Boss: Boom BoomBoom Boom from Super Mario Bros 3 is back! His latest appearance was Super Mario3D Land, but this is his second 2D appearance! For the Boom Boom fight, just avoid Boom Boom
ʼ
s spinning and stuff, then jump onhim to damage him. Doing this three times defeats him.Acorn Plains-4: Mushroom HeightsA sky level with moving mushroom platforms, Mushroom Heights introduces the pinkBalloon Baby Yoshi! Shaking the Wii Remote allows the Yoshi to float higher into the skylike a balloon (hence its name). The Balloon Baby Yoshi is also needed for the secondStar Coin here, which I found pretty annoying.Acorn Plains-5: Rise of the Piranha PlantsA grass level! With Piranha Plants!Acorn Plains-Castle: Lemmy
ʼ
s Swingback CastleA castle level with moving ledges (you should try to avoid the lava here). Afterprogressing through Lemmy
ʼ
s Castle and avoiding the lava, Mario goes outside thecastle and is shot by a cannon into Lemmy
ʼ
s Airship! For the fight with Lemmy, Lemmy will mostly be throwing bombs with stars on them.Avoid his bombs, then jump on Lemmy. Lemmy will throw giant bombs at times, soavoid this.

Keep repeating this process, and it
ʼ
s on to World 2!World 2: Layer Cake DesertLayer-Cake Desert-1: Stone-Eye ZoneThis level is obviously desert-themed. It involves Mario using Moia Heads, stone Tiki-like statues, as platforms.Layer-Cake Desert-2: Perilous Pokey CaveThis level is pretty cool. It takes place in an underground desert area, and it featuresPokeys and those sand geysers from NSMB Wii.Layer-Cake Desert-3: Fire Snake CavernYet another underground desert level, Fire Snake Cavern features the Yellow BabyYoshi. This Yoshi has the ability to light up the area; shaking the Wii Remote allows theYoshi to spin, lighting up the area even more.Layer-Cake Desert-Tower: Stoneslide TowerThis is a cool Tower level. It features these screws. Spinning on the screws causesthese platforms to come out; these platforms must be placed in certain areas in orderfor Mario to progress.Boom Boom is fought again at the end. He
ʼ
s pretty much the same, only he has onemore attack. Boom Boom can now do this spin move, so carefully avoid that, then jumpon him.Layer-Cake Desert-4: Spike
ʼ
s Spouting SandsHooray! This desert level features the return of the Spikes, those green gorilla-likeenemies seen in NSMB Wii
ʼ
s desert levels and some levels in Iced Land of Super MarioBros 3. They behave the same and throw spiked balls at you.Layer-Cake Desert-Ice: Piranha Plants on IceAn icy level in a desert! That makes perfect sense!Anyways, this secret level features Piranha Plants and slippery ice blocks that cancrush you. The Star Coins were a pain to get here, lol.Layer-Cake Desert-5: Dry Desert MushroomsThis sky-themed level involves Stone Spikes, the blue gorilla enemies from NSMB Wii,and those moving mushroom platforms appear. The Stone Spikes are a bit differenthere; they throw bigger, brown spiked balls that are different from the ones they threw inNSMB Wii. A cool and rather easy level, overall.Layer-Cake Desert-6: Blooming LakitusA desert level with Lakitus! How original! I should note, though, that these Lakitus throwSpinies that turn into Piranha Plants.Layer-Cake Desert-Castle: Morton
ʼ
s Compactor CastleBefore he can fight Morton, Mario must progress through some stone platforms that cancrush him. Certain spots are safe, while others aren
ʼ
t safe. It
ʼ
s kind of similar to ShiftySmashers from Donkey Kong Country Returns.Morton
ʼ
s fight is pretty cool. He summons a large Pokey, and cuts off its parts one byone, throwing them at you. Wall Jump and time your jumps carefully to avoid the partsof the Pokey that fly around. Then, avoid Morton
ʼ
s earthquakes and jump on him. Keeprepeating this process, and it
ʼ
s time for World 3!World 3: Sparkling WatersSparkling Waters-1: Waterspout Beach

This tropical-themed level introduces Huckit Crabs to this game (those rock-throwingcrabs from NSMB Wii), and water geysers will be used by Mario as platforms here.Sparkling Waters-2: Tropical RefresherThis underwater level involves many Urchins and Pipes. Not much else to really sayhere, lol.Sparkling Waters-Tower: Giant Skewer TowerGiant Skewer Tower features those spiked pillars that come out from the walls. Thereare also some underwater sections here, too.At the end, you, of course, fight Boom Boom. He
ʼ
s basically the same.Sparkling Waters-Ghost House: Haunted ShipwreckThis is a very cool level. It takes place inside a ruined ship of sorts, with many Boos. There are also some water parts to this ship, and even some of those poles from NSMBWii.Sparkling Waters-Leaf: Skyward StalkThis level takes place on a tall beanstalk that Mario must climb up. Its leaves will growfor Mario to climb on, but will also eventually disappear. Mario will basically be climbingup this beanstalk while avoiding Waddlewings. Some Star Coins require the FlyingSquirrel Power-Up, though.Sparkling Waters-3: Above the Cheep Cheep SeaThis level is another one with water geysers and Cheep Cheeps. Yoshi can be used inthe level, too, though!Sparkling Waters-4: Urchin ShoalsMore water geysers, but this time with huge Urchins!Sparkling Waters-5: Dragoneel
ʼ
s Undersea GrottoThis underwater level introduces the Dragoneels, long eel enemies that follow Mario ashe swims. If you shoot the Dragoneels with a Fire Flower, they won
ʼ
t really be affected, but will stretch out their long bodies.Sparkling Waters-Castle: Larry
ʼ
s Torpedo CastleThis Castle level is almost completely underwater. Mario will be avoiding Torpedo Teds, and also avoiding Rocket Engines while climbing on fences. The fight with Larry is pretty cool, but simple. Larry will be fought inside his Airship, asusual, but will also be using water geysers as platforms.World 4: Frosted GlacierFrosted Glacier-1: Spinning-Star SkyOne of my favorite levels so far in the game, Spinning-Star Sky involves giant stars thatMario will be hopping across; these stars spin when Mario jumps on them. You
ʼ
ll alsoneed to avoid Munchers.I should note that this level
ʼ
s concept reminds me a bit of Stellar Way from Kirby
ʼ
s EpicYarn; in that level, you were hopping across stars too.Frosted Glacier-2: Cooligan FieldsCooligans, the penguins from NSMB Wii, return!Frosted Glacier-Tower: Freezing-Rain TowerThis is an icy Tower level of Boom Boom
ʼ
s, with many falling icicles and stuff. The fightwith Boom Boom is the same; he just spins while you fight him.
