Their trip marked the third edition of the Jeunes Talents program, a joint initiative byMaison de la France and the French Cultural Services in Los Angeles to set the stage forfuture artistic and educational exchanges."
Jeunes Talents is a unique opportunity to open the boundaries of art, creativity and cultural exchanges. Take eight talented young American photographers. Put them in anunknown environment: a French city with its own traditions and culture. Add key playersin the contemporary photographic art scene - fine schools of photography (CalArts, Art Center College of Design, OTIS College, Loyola University) and a famous gallery owner known for innovative photography - Louis Stern. The result is one of the most exciting, subversive and challenging art concepts to date. The Cultural Services of the FrenchEmbassy are proud to be part of this project along with their French partners, Maison dela France and the FLAX foundation.
"– Yann Perreau, Deputy Cultural Attaché

PARTICIPATING CITIES OF FRANCEAntibes Juan-les-Pins
With its old stones firmly anchored in the past yet looking resolutely to the future,Antibes Juan-les-Pins offers an amazing array of qualities. Its eccentricity is embodied inthe building of Europe’s largest marina realized to satisfy the whims of a billionaire whoneeded a place to accommodate his yacht. In 1895, Antibes modernized and destroyedits surrounding walls. But the city, while now open to the world, has never lost itsauthenticity and charm. The main event of the year takes place in the second half of Julywith Europe’s oldest jazz festival, Jazz à Juan. This festival has always dedicated therising stars of jazz (it was the place of the European debut of Ray Charles in the 1960’s),and has welcomed on its stage the biggest names: from Louis Armstrong to EllaFitzgerald, from Keith Jarrett to Marcus Miller and so many others. In April, the cityorganizes a contest to promote these young musicians.Discover Antibes through the eyes of Esther Maureen Murphy and Gillian Dicker fromLoyola School (New Orleans). For information on Antibes visit:

A major destination indelibly marked by Napoleon III and other leading personalities,Biarritz has always been one of France’s most welcoming towns. Thanks to EmpressEugenie, this small fishing harbor became a fashionable seaside resort in the 19
th
century. In 1888, the continent’s second oldest golf course opened in Biarritz. Today ithas one of approximately ten golf courses in the region. Blessed with wide beaches, powerful waves and a warm climate throughout the year, in 1957, the first surfers on theEuropean continent naturally came to Biarritz which was to become Europe’s historicsurfing capital.Look at Biarritz through the pictures of Amanda Konya from Otis (LA) and AlejandroSanchez from Calart (LA).For Information on Biarritz visit:

Lyon unveils its architecture just like a history book, as you pass from one district to thenext. No need to walk for hours, the whole city lies snugly between its two rivers and itstwo hills. In 1998, the historical center of Lyon was made a UNESCO world heritage site,a distinction that crowns 2,000 uninterrupted years of history and architecture. With the numerous starred restaurants, its famous chefs, its brasseries with their turn-of-the-century decor, café-bars, whatever your tastes may be, you will find what you arelooking for in Lyon. A marvelous blend of flavors and colors to be discovered as you strollthrough the stalls in the open-air markets that already perfume the air with the exquisitescents of the south, or through the
Halles de Lyon
, the city’s permanent covered market, where all the great chefs go to do their morning shopping. The city’s prosperity has been accompanied by a cultural aura and a creative heritagethat can be seen in its approximately twenty museums, which include both a textilemuseum and a cinema museum.
