Lent is a period that begins onAsh Wednesdayand concludes the Saturday before Easter. Historically, Lent was a time of preparation for those who were to be baptized. Today,Christians use this time to prepare their hearts for Easter. It is a time of repentance, Bible study, prayer and fasting before the Resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday. Since Sun-days celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the six Sundays that occur during Lent are not counted as part of the 40 days of Lent.
