A guide to Shugborough 2013
One of the most stately and popular attractions in the Heart of England, Shugboroughhas unveiled its plans for welcoming its visitors in 2013. And that includes a host of new guided tours and activities, which will take visitors froma seat around the servants’ table to find out about life below stairs, all the way up to aprivileged glimpse behind the scenes of the Mansion’s private apartments.The Mansion House, Servants’ Quarters and Farm will now to be open to the publicfrom Wednesday to Monday, between 11am and 5pm, from March 22nd to October 25th, while the Grounds, Gardens, Tearoom and Shop will open every day of the weekduring that same period from 11am to 5pm.Other guided tours will give visitors the chance to ‘Meet the Cook in the Kitchen’, see‘The Water Mill in Action’, hear about ‘The Adventures of Admiral Anson’, and watch‘Cheese-making with the Dairymaid’ in the Farm.There will also be an opportunity to watch costumed characters at work in the traditionalwood-fired Brewhouse on the third Sunday of every month from April to October. All designed to bring the past back to life against the historic backdrop of Staffordshire’sfavourite estate of Shugborough, the new experiences have been made possible byengaging a whole new army of volunteers guides and costumed characters.Other highlights of the year ahead will include an “Enjoy Art” exhibition featuring thework of some of Staffordshire most talented artists between March 29
and April 14
, a“Shugborough Wildlife” exhibition from May 25
to June 2
, and a “Lichfield at theMovies” photographic exhibition between July 1
and September 1
.The exhibition in the Servants’ Quarters between March 22nd and October 25th thisyear will be “Gods, Greeks and Gorgons” – giving visitors the chance to discover someof the ancient Greek gods that have made their home at Shugborough.
