Mariah Cook Egan/Smith 2-17-09Debate(closing statement)Over the years the U.S has taken in many weak, barbaric, and fearful countries who neededguidance. Some did not ask for our help, they were probably shy, but because we are such a generousand giving nation we decided to use all of our powers to help those who needed it. We helped countriesso that they would no longer be in the dark about what the world was really like. However, we never sent them back out totally and completely alone. We were always there watching over them, to protectthem and make sure nothing bad happened again.We helped some countries gain independence from their former rulers. Such as Panama, Cubaand the Dominican Republic. We helped countries out of debt of their former owners, we helped teachthem how to mine the natural resources that they possessed, and we gave them a market to trade thosenew goods with, in order to help their economy grow and become strong again. We even sent themguidance from the lord. We felt that it was our divinely commissioned duty to bring these people toChrist. In order to help these people we had to civilize them so that they could understand what neededto be done to help them. During these times the ways of the world were not nice. We knew that theseweak countries would not survive in such a place. It was survival of the fittest, so we knew that we hadto help these countries before they were torn apart by the vicious world. We increased our military power and even created one of the greatest navy's in the world so that we could protect our newadditions to the U.S. as well as the already existing states.Imperialism, as some people like to call it, was not a bad thing. We helped other countries torealize their full potential in the world. We could not just give them guidelines however because theywould not have known, what to do with them. So we cleaned, refined, and educated these people sothat they could understand the world that they were living in, and to make sure they did not get intomore trouble we kept them under our wings so that we could catch them if they fell. God gave us the power to reach out and help those who did not have the power within to help themselves to create a
