 Your Tax Dollars At Work
The Bolivar Joint Fire District Commissioners are a group of fiveelected officials that oversee the finances for the district. Your taxdollars pay for the electric, fuel, water, phone, diesel fuel and gasneeded for the fire trucks and ambulances. The vehicles are kept inexcellent condition throughout the year. Every three years a newambulance or truck is purchased to replace the oldest vehicle. In the past two years new gear was bought for each fireman at acost of approximately $3,000 per set. The insurance for each vehicle is paid and a health policy to cover medical costs incurred while in the line of duty. Recently an ATV and trailer were purchased for fighting brushfires.  All the trucks and ambulances are supplied with all the materialsneeded in fighting fires or helping the ill. In 2012, there were 130 firecalls and 376 ambulance calls. The men and women serve 24 hrs. a day, everyday at their ownexpense and receive no wages. They willingly give their time andtalents for this community. When they join there are hours of instruction in whatever capacity you want to serve in.  About a year ago a social member group started. This is for thosewho want to serve in a voluntary way but are not equipped to devotethe time necessary for fire or auxiliary membership. They do not goon calls but help in other capacities. They are covered by insurancein case of incidents involving their volunteering. If you would like toserve in this capacity, please call 928-1250.  A need right now is helping clean out the 62 fire hydrants after aheavy snowfall. The junior firemen could help but need leadership. If you would be able to help with this, please call 928-1250. In 2014, the Southwestern Fire Convention will be here. We willneed garages for the visiting firemen’s dugouts. If you will help in thisway please call 928-1250. It is not too early to commit for asuccessful convention to bring income into our area. The dedicated firemen and ambulance staff are doing their part inmaking Bolivar a great place to live. Will you help?
Ruth Thompson Secretary for the Bolivar Joint Fire Commissioners
