Options:
1, Create a new database and website on VMWare servers (1 or 2 processors as needed) and use SQL Server
Reporting. SQL Server Reporting is new to our group and would require training, ‘There are advantages
to this approach: (1) Kronos Is moving from Crystal Reports to SQL Server Reporting Services, and we
could leverage the Kronos training/experience in this application. (2) SQL Server Reporting Services is
becoming a standard reporting development environment in IT. Two big disadvantages would be that (1)
‘TMU proficiency in SQL Server Reporting Services will take until June 2009 to develop, and (2) OSC daes
not have this reporting skill.
Estimated Cost:
VMWare servers 1,000
OS for servers 1,600
SQLServer 2005 1,500
‘Training for SQL Reporting 9,000
Plus:
Security - FDW production would not be effected.
Cost ~ Low, due to no need for WebFOCUS licenses. _
Growth ~ Allows for growth in the future even to move up to more processors
Speed - Price of a dual processor server is the same as a single processor server so performance
should be acceptable.
Minus:
Se2. Create a new database and website on two single-processor-VMWare servers and purchase related
licenses.
Estimated Cost:
VMWare servers 1,000
0S for servers 1,600
SQL Server 2005 3,000
‘WebFOCUS licenses 30,000
WebFOCUS annual maintenance 6,000
Plus:
Security - FDW will be isolated from public-facing website.
Cost - Medium
Growth _ Allows both systems to grow in the future, even to move upto more processors and
licenses for needed
Minus:
Speed ~ A single-processor database server will be somewhat slower than @ 2 processor but
performance should still be acceptable.
3, reate a new database and website on two VMWareservers and purchase related licenses. Procure 2
wrocessor license for the database server.
EStimated Cost:
VMWare servers 1,000
OS for servers 1,600
SQL Server 2005 1,600
WebFOCUS licenses 0,000
WebFOCUS annual maintenance 10,000 :
Plus:
Security - FDW will be isolated from public-facing website. .
Growth ~ Allows both systems to grow in the future, even to move up to more processors and
licenses for needed
Speed - The dual-processor database server will offer-more than acceptable performance,
Minus:
Cost- This might be more than what is needed.
‘A. Create a new database and website on the existing FDW servers and convert from two single-core to
‘dual-core processors. Purchase 2 additional processor licenses for WebFOCUS from [BI.
Estimated Cost:
WebFOCUS licenses 65,000
WebFOCUS annual maintenance 13,000
Plus:
Speed ~ Higher than present, for both FDW and public web site
Minus:
Security - Lack of isolation between public and state web sites poses security issues, in
particular denial of service attack against the public website would affect PDW users
Minus:
Cost - Highest.
Growth - Limits growth of FDW database.
