DO YOU HAVE A WHISPER? PSSSST........
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!
Cuz when you do, that makes merry for more than just your family! It puts your hard
earned dollars back into our community, and helps support the businesses that have
taken the risk of investing their lives into our lovely town. Our society tends to promote
the Bigger is Better mentality, but I like Small and Meaningful living better, myself.
Plus - shopping local is often very easy while doing my research for the Gift Guide
issue, nearly every store I entered asked if they could help me, and then jumped at the
chance to suggest gift options. Our business owners all know how hard you work for
your money, and they are happy to suggest gifts for every budget - I promise! You cant
beat the personal service youll get at a local business - and you cant beat keeping your
bucks local.

slowly work through deep layers of

I asked my vet, Dr. Mason at Thomasville Veterinary
Hospital, for a word about getting pets for Christmas.
Pets are great Christmas gifts as long as...
1. The recipient knows, wants and can afford the responsi-
bility. Food is only one piece of the pie - yearly check ups,
ea and heartworm medication, spaying or neutering - the
initial cost of the pet is small compared to the cost over its
lifetime.
2. An adequate health screening should performed so that
unknown expenses and/or heartache are not gifted.
Pets, especially dogs, are such a part of this Thomasville life.
Lets be good stewards of these faithful companions!

The lights are up (arent they pretty!?) and the shops are decked. First Friday some shops
have extended holiday hours, but the real festivities are Victorian Christmas on December
13th and 14th. Downtown Dollars, good at over 50 shops and restaurants in Downtown
Thomasville, are a one-size-fits-all gift that supports our local merchants. Come by the
Main Street office or the Visitors Center and start checking off your gift list with Down-
town Dollars! For more information call 229-227-7020 or visit: downtownthomasville.com

Abreeze is blowing and you can smell the pine air that brought many northerners here at the
turn of the 20th century. Longleaf, Far as the Eye Can See, is a tribute to the pine.
Longleaf love gets more local with The Legacy of a Red Hills Hunting Plantation: Tall
Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy. Finally, in The Seed Underground: A Growing
Revolution to Save Food, Janisse Ray weaves stories of gardeners who are conserving rare seeds
with the science that will compel you to try it.
So for the love of the land, come save the seeds, save the trees, and buy the books.
