Thanks again, M. As a former classroom teacher and now sociologist focussing on the developmental streams of children, I know why so few people like to read. It's covered largely in my book. For most people, that deficit begins before they go to school.

I always find it sad when people talk about the dying business of newspapers. Don't know about you guys, although I enjoy getting fast info from the web; there is still something pleasant and enjoyable about physically holding/reading a newspaper or book that I don't get with online media. I just don't get why such a small percentage of people read. Great doc!!!!

It's amazing how we assume that the rest of our countrymen have habits similar to ours. But, not so. This statistic is truly sad, I think.

"only six percent of Canadian adults reads more than three books per year"!!! I guess I spend my time with intellectual people!
