Dear Parents/Guardians:Session III of the DMS afterschool programming will be for six Tuesdays: March 12 – April 16 from2:30-3:45pm unless otherwise noted in the program description. Students report to the gym hallway atthe end of the school day for a light snack and then proceed to their classes. The activities are beingmade possible by DMS staff, as well as community and parent volunteers. NO transportation isavailable and students
must
be picked up promptly at 3:45pm unless otherwise noted.
Registrations must be in by Friday February 22th. Spots are filled on a first come, first servebasis.
There is a sliding scale fee structure and the class fee must accompany the registration form. Dueto the low costs of this program we are asking that you
send in cash
and not checks if at all possible.Every attempt will be made to allow each student to participate in a class but space is limited.

Session III offerings:The Rogue Waves
: The Rogue Waves is a skateboarding group open to students who consider themselves
intermediate to expert skateboarders
. Group members will meet up to watch the newest,latest skate videos on the big screen, discuss upcoming local events, and travel to the Red Alert Indoor Skateboard Park in Dover for an extended class ending at 5 PM. All group members MUST have their own skateboard and safety equipment and must be picked up PROMPTLY at the skateboard park.Additional details will be discussed at the first meeting. Students in this program can ride the TeenCenter van that will drop them off at the Red Alert facility.
Grades 7/8 only (or permission from Mr. Johnson) 13 students total
 
Cooking 101
:Do you want to learn to cook? Does cooking seem like its hard? If you want to learn, now is the time!In this class, you will learn some cooking basics and make some amazing food that is not hard to makeat all! We will make things like omelets, burgers, tacos and more!
Grades 5-8 14 students totalWriting Fantasy and Science Fiction
Break out your pens, paper, and imagination! In this five-week course, we will learn about the elementsof fiction, and specifically how they apply to fantasy and science fiction. We will invent and developinteresting characters, devise compelling plots, and learn how to design fantastical but believableworlds. By the end of the course, you’ll know how to turn your great ideas into stories!

STEM for Girls! STARTS March 19
Each week participants will gain background on what engineers do followed by a hands-on activityencouraging girls to develop the creative problem solving skills connected with engineering. Activitieswill include build a robotic arm, make homemade ice cream, and a rollercoaster and more. This program is run by UNH- Society of Women Engineers (SWE) members who want to see more girlsconsider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Grades 5-8, GIRLS only! 14 students total. This Class will meet for five weeks due to the UNHSpring break.Building Confidence through Martial Arts:
This 6 week introduction to karate is specifically designed for students with little or no martial artsexperience. Students will learn basic blocking, kicking, and punching techniques while learning how toimprove their focus and concentration skills. The instructors will utilize a series of martial arts skilldrills which will engage every type of learner. Each student will learn how to utilize their eyes, ears andmind to improve their ability to focus on the task at hand. This program is being offered by instructorsfrom Quest Martial Arts.
Grades 5-8 15 students total
 
Sea Perch –Modified!!
This session is offered for students who have already built a Sea Perch ROV during the last three years.Participants will look at re-engineering their vehicles in order to meet challenges that have beendeveloped by the staff at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Participants will then be given the opportunityto be members of two teams of students who will compete at the Regional Sea Perch Competition inMay at UNH. Students interested in participating in the competition MUST register for this session.
SESSIONS will end at 5pm

grade 5-8 can register for this class: 16 students total.Students MUST have a vehicle that that have already constructed.Fly Tying : Get Ready for Opening Day :
Do you like fishing? Do you dream of catching the bigone? Then this class is for you! Members of the Great Bay Trout Unlimited group will teach you the artof fly tying. By binding material to a hook with thread you will create “flies” that different types of fisheat in freshwater settings. All the tools and materials you need will be supplied to make practical fliesthat work in with a variety of fish. Check the pictures on the DMS website to see some of the “flies”you will be creating to catch the “Big One”.
Grades 5-8, 12 student totalBarnyard Fun and More:
Students from the Dover High School Animal Science program are providing this amazing opportunity for students to have a hands-on experience with barnyard animalsand more. Come and learn about a different animal each week including how to care for these animals,their eating habits as well as their growth and development. This is a wonderful introduction to programs available at the Career Technology Center.
Grades 5-8, 12 students totalFIRST Legos Challenge Prep!
If you are considering being a member of our FIRST Legos team next fall then this class is for you.Participants will learn about ways to design and program robots. Using the Mindstorm kits participants
 
will have the experience of creating robots to meet certain challenge criteria. This hands-on experiencewill give each student a chance to see if being part of the DMS FIRST Lego team next year is right for them.
Grades 5-8, 10 students totalSimple Machines Lego Style:
Sign up for this great activity and have a chance to play with legos and build simple machines. Be the first students to assemble vehicles and more while learning about whatmakes a simple machine. Students will work in teams of two each week to do exciting builds. Eachweek will bring a new adventure. This is a great addition to our Science, Technology, Engineering andMath offerings.
Grades 5 and 6, 12 students totalRocking Ready for Spring: Strive for a new healthy routine and have fun doing it!
If you've got the desire; we've got the challenge! Spend the next 6 weeks pushing beyond your comfortzone, accomplishing more than you thought, laughing all the way. Learn better ways to fuel your bodyand fun ways to move it. This class is for any student no matter what your activity level it today. Snackswill be made and recipes shared each week. Join the challenge and sign up today.

Do you play with Vanguard cards or have you heard about this card game! If you would like a chanceto play with a group of students and improve your skills or try it out for the first time then sign up for this great class.
