Dear Parents and Guardians,It is hard to believe that we are more than halfway through the school year. Please carefullyread the News Waves and all e-mail and snail mail correspondence you receive from DoverMiddle School. A lot of information is delivered at this time of year regarding completing thisschool year and planning for the next school year. Recently, individual NECAP testing scores were mailedhome. The 8
graders also received a letter, in the same envelope, regarding the high school courseselection process.I would like to thank the PTA for all their efforts to support Dover Middle School. They provideopportunities for students to participate in outside programs, give gift certificates for books or supplies toour teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week, bring in outside speakers to educate parents on importanttopics and work tirelessly to raise money and provide funds to our school. Look for their March fundraiser,
“Blooming for Technology”. If you haven’t already, please consider joining the PTA. The other support youcan lend in 2 minutes or less is to “like” their Facebook page,
. They are halfway to their goal of 500likes this school year. This page provides reminders of school information and also many education oradolescent related announcements and links.Similar to recent years, the Dover School District is facing yet another difficult budget season. It isimperative that parents inform themselves about the
potential impacts the budget will have to their child’s
education. Please get involved.A few dates to remember for the upcoming month:February 25th-March 1

Grade School Counselor
In late January, DHS and CTC counselors talked with all 8
grade studentsregarding how to succeed at DHS, including number of credits to graduate, what a blockschedule looks like, interesting CTC programs, the NH Scholars Program, and much moreuseful information. Parents/guardians received a letter from Principal Lyndes regardingDHS Transition early in February. Students met Dean Stephens and toured DHS and theCTC on 2/12 and seemed to really enjoy it. On March 11
, students will bring home
another letter specifically describing Course Selection and will bring home teachers’
recommendations for core classes and a foreign language. Parents and students willchoose electives to fill the remaining credits for Freshman year. Remember, students need between 7 and 8credits (7 credits- student have a Study Hall all year; 8 credits- no Study Hall). You should start looking nowat the DHS Program of Studies (POS) online on both DHS and DMS websites. Finally, if you have anyquestions, the POS i
s a great place to start, and if that doesn’t answer your questions, make sure to come to
the DMS PTA meeting March 12
from 7-8:00p.m. in the DMS Library to speak directly with DHS staff! Of course, feel free to reach out to DMS and DHS staff at any point along the way. Enjoy this process;
it’s a very
exciting time!
