The Mark of Zorro
. This 4 week project aims to engage with Primary 4 pupils and al-lows the main themes of
The Mark of Zorro
to be explored through the tale of a completely new char-acter and story.
The pupils are introduced to a video broadcast in the style of a news report following up onsightings of an alleged superhero who goes by the name of Lightning Avenger.
The pupils will meet Lightning Avenger through a live online chat or in person when she turns up attheir school unbeknownst to the class. The superhero will place her trust in the pupils as she iscurrently in hiding; she will confess that sadly her sidekick was captured while in pursuit of her archenemy Hellstorm. She is desperate to find a new sidekick to help her to protect and save the world. She informs the class that she will be recruiting a new sidekick in the next few weeks and that she isputting them through a selection process.
In this week the class will be part of an audition process to become Lightning Avenger’s newsidekick. They will engage in a selection of creative tasks carried out by teachers but prepared andplanned in collaboration with Visible Fictions artists. The pupils will keep in contact with Lightning Avenger via her web page, posting documentation of their tasks and also reading new revelations onLightning Avenger’s recent adventures.
Via a live broadcast it will be shockingly revealed to the class that Lightning Avenger has been cover-ing up her true identity and she is merely an ordinary girl named Rosie who does not have anysuper powers at all. Upset that she has deceived her newfound friends she will ask the pupils;‘Why did I think I could be a superhero? Or do anything that could change or help the world? After allI’m only a young girl, what can I do?’
