Attending the Fort LauderdaleInternational Boat Show can beoverwhelming unless you have a plan. With six sites, more than1,200exhibitorsandmilesofdocks,youneedtobepreparedsoyoucangetthemostvalueandenjoymentoutoftheshow.
When togo:
The firstthing youneed to deter-mine is whichday or days togo. The showalways openson a Thurs-day, which isknown asPrime TimePreview. If  youwanttobeamong thefirst several thousand people tosee the show, then you’ll pay theprime-timepriceof$36perticket.If being first isn’t an issue, but you are looking to make a majorpurchase, then a two-day ticketfor $38 is your best bet. Good forany two of the next four days of theshow,itallowsyoutocompari-son shop for a boat, engine, elec-tronics, safety gear, jewelry, art-work or clothing, then come backafter you’ve had time to processeverything and make a final deci-sion.Thursday is often quite busy atthe show, but Saturday and Sun-day are traditionally the busiestdays.Mondayistheleastcrowdedday and some exhibitors offer re-ducedpricesontheirgoodsjustsothey don’t have to pack them upandlugthembackhome.
What to wear:
You want todress comfortably for the show.On a hot and sunny day at theoutdoor venues, you’ll want light-weight clothing, a hat and sun-screen — you’d be surprised howscorched you can get walking along the docks. If you’re staying in the air-conditioned BrowardCounty Convention Center, youdon’thavetoworryaboutthat. Youalsowanttowearcomfort-able shoes because you might bedoing a lot of walking. If you planon going on boats, you’ll wantshoesthatareeasytotakeoffandput back on because most exhibi-tors will not let you wear shoes —even boat shoes — on their boats.Ifyou’rewearingsocks,makesurethey’recleananddon’thaveholes.
Ticketsavings:

Gettingtotheshow can be easy or maddening.Thebasicruleofthumbistoparkas far away from the Bahia Mar Yachting Center, which is theheartoftheshow, asyoucan.StateRoad A1A by Bahia Mar is usually  jammedwithcarsandsoisSouth-east17thStreetCausewayneartheconvention center, which has parkinggaragethatfillsupearlyintheday. The best options are to parkoff-site at War Memorial Audito-rium or in downtown Fort Lau-derdale and take one of the freeshuttle buses to the show. The buses start running at 9 a.m., anhour before the show opens eachday, and continue until an houraftertheshowcloseseachday. The most enjoyable way to gettotheshowisbyparkinginoneof thecityorprivatelotsorgaragesattheLasOlasRiverfrontandtaking the free riverboat to Bahia Mar.The riverboat captains often pro- vide an entertaining and inform-ative narrative of the route’s his-toryandhomes.
