WHAT SHOULD BE DONE ? 1. Enough Garbage Bags must be provided in Trains. 2. While cleaning and grooming train compartment, everyday supervision is required, Stop throwing plastic garbage out side in forest and fields. 3. Some action plan must be developed and strictly implemented, to clean the existing Plastic waste nearby Rails in Indian railways periphery throughout India. 4. Dustbins to be placed beneath wash basin in Non AC compartments and Generals Compartments in all trains of Indian Railways. 5. Unreadable Instructional Posters (stickers) in all the Trains will be replaced with new and clearly readable stickers in all trains in Indian railways. Time on time checks and replacements must be done. 6. Assuming all said and done, do we passengers have responsibility? We do exactly the opposite of all these. After all the legislation and everything from the govt/administrative side, we still feel comfortable carrying the plastic covers/bags and nothing else. People still use the toilets despite clear-cut request by IR not to use them when the train is at a station. Do we listen? We still litter within the train itself, let alone, along the rails. We still throw our eatables (leftovers) wrapped in plastic just on the aisle. ___________________________________________________________ Creating awareness should play an important part rather than anything. If an incentive is provided (like Rs. 2 for every plastic cover returned to IR staff on board for safe disposal), then that may act as a catalyst.

your Observation is valuable dear friend, it is an ignition .. look at the results of all efforts and legislation .. Lets have a Dustbins Placed in Non AC and Genral compartment ... lets slowly slowly people rise there understanding and awareness on Plastic waste .. Today most of this Plastic waste is destroying our forest , cities and Crop fields... Lets Reduce it a little with this effort !!!

RDY THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW GOOD POST I have come accross on THIS SITE. It's a very great initiative and hope we are at least that much educated to full fill responsibility towards nature. If we don't we will be leaving behind a WRAM HOT UNPREDICTABLE CLIMATE DRY PLANET for our young generation to come. They will only have to suffer for water food and comfort Thank you for rekindle the ray of hope.

Why spare the AC compartments? They are no saints. It is even worse in AC compartments as people do not have patience to dispose off the waste in the bins provided underneath the washbasin. They just stuff it and literally strew it around the washbasin, with stench emanating later.

@Mahesh..... Becasue AC already have Dustbins and thats the Campaign ... they Have DUSTBINS and NON AC and Genral do not ... this is why I stared this .. :)

Mahesh We are all culprit either by doing what you have said or not stopping co passenger from doing that. I tell you my experience in 1AC I was travelling in a coupe of 4 berths and I saw remaining 2 PAX of same family chucked the wrapper on the chocklets under the seat. I picked the wrapper and placed in the bin provided in the coupe. The bin was situated at arm reach distance. By seeing that they felt bit embarrassed and apologised. But after that they were using the bins for even toothpick to throw. I told them politely the consequence and requested to spread and nurture the safe environment mantra in their family. You know they promised and I am confident that they will be doing what they committed. The moral of story is if we can bring change in one person at least daily around all of us the whole country will change.

Tiwari-ji, certainly I cannot disagree with your charity-begins-at-home mantra. Appreciate your gesture (willingness to help) in helping two people realize their folly. Of course, it was made easy as they were obviously literates and less no. of people to counsel. Imagine the enormity of it in SL, which Mr. RYD has pointed out, where people are not ready to listen to anyone. Worse, we get stares/scolds as if we have committed a crime. Those points were made to drive home the fact how everyone, including myself, stays ignorant of the environmental impact.
