Characteristics of proposed development in termsof biodiversity
The proposed 141.7 km canal will enter India after traversing 13km length in Bhutan.
In India, the proposed canal would traverse through 14.5 km ofcore and 9.35 km of bufferareas of Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR).
The canal would also traverse through Gorumara NationalPark, Jaldapara and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuaries covering55.25 km of total stretch of forests in North Bengal.
The wildlife habitats
the canal represent a compositestronghold for Elephant, Tiger, Rhinoceros and also serve as avital corridor for movement of animals between them and alsobetween West Bengal, Assam and Bhutan.
