Introductory Remarks
Clean technologies will have a undamental role in the uture o Ontario’s economy, aswell as the rest o Canada. Adoption o clean technology solutions will reduce the energy needs and other costs o Canadian industry, thereby contributing to their productivity andcompetitiveness, resulting in the jobs and prots that drive the economy. At the same time, widespread adoption o these clean technologies will help Canada meet its greenhouse gas andair contaminants reduction goals.Te best practices and opportunities outlined in this Report will contribute to the uturesuccess o the cleantech industry in Ontario. Now is the time or government and industry to act. We are seeing undamental shis in the economy, both because o the nancial crisesand environmental concerns. Increased investments and progressive policy and regulationsencouraging new technology adoption are critical and present tremendous opportunities orindustry and or all Canadians. From an international perspective, Canadian industry must adopt clean technologies tostay competitive globally, as countries like the United States and China want to shed costand increase value in their product oerings. Canada too must move up the value chain, supplementing its underpinning as a resourced-based economy. For our clean technology companies, the markets are opening up to green technologies, ascountries seek to move rom the old economy to the new clean economy. Te opportunitiesto create and sustain a more viable, greener inrastructure are immense. We can lag behindand be a technology taker, or we can use our collective skills and knowledge, some o which iscaptured in this report, and be a technology seller. Let’s seize the moment and lead.
