This study provided a great avenue of learning and discovery to the proponents. Theywere able to learn a lot about appendicitis and gain knowledge that will help them in becoming better nurses in the future. The success of this study has a great impact on researches since itreminds them of the hardships and obstacles that they needed to overcome in order to finish this;a success that would not be possible if not because of certain individuals who aided tom to getthrough. To the Almighty God, a heartfelt gratitude is offered for the guidance and blessings thatHe showered upon them. The Lord answers their prayers and aided them in completing thisstudy. The proponents believe that without Him, they could not do anything. Thank You.To the parents of the proponents who gave financial and moral support to them, awarmest thank you is given to you all. They know that without you by their side, they could nothave had the money to sustain them in making this study. With your prayers, you were able togive them strength to continue even though the road that they travel is bumpy and rocky. The family of Mr. Tudlas and the patient himself are the main player of this study.Without their cooperation and consent, this would never have been possible. Thank you for accommodating the proponents. You have been a great help to them.To Mrs. Graciela Dizon, RN, Mrs. Cynthia Villanueva, RN, and to the other clinicalinstructors who guided the proponents in the operating room, thank you. The teachings that youimpart top them will remain in their lives as nurses in the future. You mold them into becomingwho they are. Without you, effective learning will never be possible. To the nurses on duty of the DMC Operating Room Main and the DMC Surgery Team, thank you for the warm welcome and guidance. You answered the proponents questions patiently and you were so accommodating to them. They couldn’t have done this without your help.1

Introduction
Acute appendicitis is extremely common. It’s seen most frequently in the 5- to 30-year-old age group, but can occur at any age. The appendix becomes inflamed, swollen, andgangrenous, and it eventually perforates if not treated. Although the cause of appendicitis isunknown, it is thought to be related to intraluminal obstruction with a fecalith (i.e., hard piece of stool) or to twisting. If the inflammation continues without treatment, it may lead to its rupture, which may cause peritonitis or the infection of the entire lining of the abdomen and the pelvis. The ruptured appendix may also allow the bacteria to infect the blood-stream causing sepsis.Treatment includes antibiotic therapy or sutgical removal of the appendix.About 7% of the population will have appendicitis at some time in their lives; males areaffected more than females, and teenagers more than adults. The incidence rate for acuteappendicitis is approximately 1 on 400 or 0.35% or 680,000 people in USA. The peak incidenceof acute appendicitis has gradually declined to about half of its peak incidence in the early 20
th
century, with the current annual incidence of 1 per 1000 population in the United States and 86cases for every 100,000 persons worldwide. The extrapolated incidence of appendicitis in thePhilippines is 215,604 of 86,241,697

estimated population.Due to time constraints and limited cases, the proponents of this study chose the case of appendectomy of Mr. MT, male and 30 years of age. First of all, the group can relate the casewith their perioperative concept in their Nursing Care Management 101. Appendectomy is alsoone of the most common surgical procedures done. In relation to this, the proponents, as studentnurses and future nurses, will be encountering more of this procedure in the future. And inassociation with the patient, the group chose him because he was very responsive and waswilling to be interviewed. The proponents are hoping that through this study, they will be more knowledgeable andaware about appendicitis and appendectomy, as they had applied their acquired knowledge about perioperative concept. The proponents also realized that as future nurses, this study will givethem some insights about the said illnesses and surgical procedure and will in turn; help themform a foundation of their understanding of the proper nursing care and management for patientshaving such illnesses or undergoing such operation.2

Objectives
General ObjectivesIn the light of knowledge, the main goal of the proponents is to present a case presentation about appendicitis. Through this, the group is hoping to gain knowledgeable factsabout appendicitis.Specific ObjectivesThe proponents of this study also created certain aims that would go along with thegeneral objectives so that step-by-step actions will be done. Within 1 day of clinical exposurefollowing a week of case study writing, the proponents aim to:1)Establish rapport with the patient and significant others.2)Gather significant data from the patient’s chart and the patient himself through interviewand assessment.3)Draw the patient’s medical and family history.4)To gain knowledge about the patient’s expectations and the effects of his condition tohimself.5)Ascertain the patient’s developmental status using the theories of Dorothe Orem, RoyCallista, Myra Estrine Levine, Katherine Kolcaba and Nightingale.6)Define the client’s complete diagnosis.7)Conduct a thorough and comprehensive cephalocaudal physical assessment using the 4techniques: inspection, percussion, palpation and auscultation.8)Review on the anatomy and physiology of the client, specifically the gastrointestinal andlymphatic system relation of the appendix.9)Review on the Etiology and Symptomatology regarding client’s disease.3
