Volume 10 Number 40
Doing More with Less
By Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries
As you hear the news reports and read the headlines, it ishard to remain optimistic. In fact, for many of us, we will needto tighten our financial belts. As we do this, we must be carefulnot to lose sight of the ministry to which Godcalls us and reach out to one another. The third key to Ministry Strategyat FFC is to serve people. The overallgoal is to help you apply yourspiritual gifts in serving others. Todo this we endeavor to encourageand assist you to be sociallyresponsible and evangelisticallybold in the joyful use of yourtime, talents and treasures.Paul’s letter to the church atPhilippi provides these encour-agement to aid us in embracingthis call. In these times when weare tempted to pull in our horns, Paul provides two cautions andtwo exhortations to help us see the need beyond ourselves.Biblical scholar J. B. Phillips paraphrases verses 3 & 4 of chapter 2 this way:Never act from selfish motives or personal vanity, butin humility think more of each other than you do of yourselves.Don’t think only of your own affairs, butconsider other people’s interests also.As we move towards the goal of serving others, we will seek to integrate service opportunities in everything that we do,including connecting in small groups.Being connected in a smaller group of like-minded believersoffers many benefits. Some of the rewards of connecting withothers include: greater profit for your efforts to grow spiritually, increased productivity in your spiritual journey, the abundantprovision of people who intimately know your needs, and neces-sary protection from your spiritual enemy, Satan. In addition to these rewards, being connected within a grouphelps extend the reach of your efforts to transform the lives of those you know with acts of service and words of hope. Thereis a definite synergy that occurs when you join your gifts andefforts with others. Your impact goes deeper. Your reach goesfarther. You can do more together than you can do alone.Connect today with a group that will help you extend thereach of your ministry.
