Description

Kelly Link's (www.kellylink.net) second collection, Magic for Beginners, was selected as a Best Book of the Year by Time Magazine, Salon, BoldType, and PopMatters, among others. It was nominated for various awards, including the Young Lions and Bram Stoker, and won the Locus Award.

Kelly Link and Small Beer Press would like to thank Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (USA) and HarperPerennial (UK) for their willingness to participate in making these stories available online. Due to contractual obligations, "The Faery Handbag" and "Magic for Beginners" are not included in this download.

"Link's stories ... play in a place few writers go, a netherworld between literature and fantasy, Alice Munro and J.K. Rowling, and Link finds truths there that most authors wouldn't dare touch."
-- Time Magazine

"Link's writing shimmers with imagination."
-- Salon

"This is one of the most extraordinary and wonderful books of the year."
—Time Out London,

What's up here is a fantastic collection, but if you like it, you MUST buy the actual book--as far as I can tell, rights issues have prevented the inclusion here of "The Faery Handbag," which won the Hugo, the Nebula and the Locus Award, and the title story "Magic for Beginners," which won the Nebula, the Locus Award and the British SF Award. They're both amazing stories, as one might surmise.
