Brief SummarySBCCS II will closely resemble the school model of South Bronx Classical Charter School
(“SBCCS”). In addition to a focus on the fundamentals of reading, writing, and math, the school
offers character education to all its scholars, Latin starting in third grade, and Debate starting infourth grade. Finally, consistent with a liberal arts education, the school seeks to ensure thatscholars graduate with a diverse array of skills and appreciation in Art and Music.
The school’s objectives seek to offer structure, academic rigor, and “college ready” curricula to
ensure college and career readiness through academic and ethical knowledge and skill.
Similar to SBCCS, the school’s instructional leadership will include the Executive Director and
the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and each grade will have a Grade Team Leader, whowill be charged with curricular refinement, observing and improving teachers in his or hergrade, holding grade team meetings, and reporting to the Executive Director. This systemprovides organizational stability and a leadership pipeline for teachers to become Directors of Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy and Math coaches, or Deans of Students.
The school’s target population is the families of the South Bronx, p
articularly in the Longwood,Hunts Point, Morrisania, and surrounding neighborhoods. These areas are highly diverse, andthus demographic statistics vary greatly. Generally, however, the target population resides inareas in profound need of improved educational outcomes.SBCCS II will partner with SBCCS for a variety of services, including professional development,bookkeeping, curriculum, and human resources.
