March 1st, 2009Dear Friends:I write to you today as a member of the United We Dream Coalition. The United WeDream Coalition, represents a broad alliance of educators, businesses, labor groups, civilrights organizations, faith-based groups, online activists, youth groups, and variouscommunity-based organizations from across the country. Our legislative priority is theDream Act, a legislation that will legalize the status of millions of undocumented studentswho work hard andWe believe inA path to legalization for undocumented immigrants especially immigrantstudentsAccess to financial aid, scholarships, and other supplementary opportunities tohigher education/post secondary education for all studentsAccess to higher education for all studentsBuilding the leadership of immigrant and non immigrant youth through leadershipdevelopment, organizing and advocacyWe particularly seek your support through an organizational endorsement for the DreamAct, a proposed legislation that would allow young immigrant students who have grownup in the United States a path to legalization upon graduating from high school or obtaining a GED. This is important as an estimated 65,000 immigrant students graduateeach year from high school only to find the doors to higher education closed to them because of their immigration status. The United We Dream Coalition has officially launched the 2009 Dream Act campaign. We expect the DREAM Act to be re-introduced soon by Senator Durbin (D-IL) and Rep.Berman. Over the next few months, we will be asking for your collaboration includingyour organizations participation in legislative visits, actions and national events. If youwould like to endorse the campaign, please contact us atendorsement@unitedwedream.org. For updates or general information, contact us atinfo@unitedwedream.org. We appreciate your continuous commitment to supporting thedreams of immigrant students.Yours truly,United We Dream Coalition
