Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada requested the Council of Canadian Academies conduct an in-depth assessment to answer the question: What additional science is needed to better guide sustainable management of water to meet the needs of agriculture? The Council assembled a Panel with Canadian and international experts to respond to this question. The Panel was chaired by Dr. Howard Wheater, Canada Excellence Research Chair in Water Security. The Expert Panel has now completed their authoritative report. It explores five key areas where additional science and action can contribute to better sustainable management of water in agriculture. The final report and its findings provide valuable evidence-based information. The report’s insights will support policy and decision makers as they consider how best to maintain a robust agricultural sector that is sustainably managed.
