Basically,that means that almosteverything and any-thing that man usescan be worked via ma-chine or hand. Beforesuch items or industrialparts can be used orexchange hands to itsend use or user, theymust be made to fit,form, and functionsafely. The word safelyis open to interpreta-tion; however, it pri-marily means that itshould not hurt, cut, ordamage surroundingobjects or people.The word ‘safely’, orthat end product con-dition of the item orpart in question, is nor-mally achieved by afinishing process or just the term “FINISHING”. Tentative agree-ments with the International UAWreached on May 16, 2008, cover-ing approximately 3,650 American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings,Inc. (AAM) associates at five fa-cilities in Michigan and New York,have been ratified. The new con-tract reportedly contains largepay cuts and other concessions,and includes the closure of aforge plant in Detroit, MI, and afactory in Tonawanda, NY. Ap-proximately 3,650 UAW membershad been on strike since February26 over wage and benefit issues.The company expects to have itsplants running production thisweek. Dile Kent McCnairpled guilty Thursday, in a Tylercourtroom, to the felony offenseof storage of hazardous wastewithout a permit in connectionwith his former business, ExtremeMetal Finishing, Inc. in Point, TX.The office of the U.S. Attorney forthe Eastern District of Texas re-ported that McNair admitted tostoring spent cyanide plating bathsolutions and plating bath resi-dues from the bottom of platingbaths, from electroplating opera-tions at the Point facility without apermit. McNair is facing up to 5years imprisonment and a fine of up to $50,000.00 for each day of violation at sentencing. A sen-tencing date has not been set.
