AndrewGeorge Bachmann, inventor, entre-preneur, and business leader, diedon Sept. 15, at the Riverside Re-gional Hospital in Newport News, Va. He was 68. Founder and Chair-man of the Dymax Corporation,Bachmann's adhesive inventions andsuccessful marketing led to thecreation and development of prod-ucts used in the manufacture of medical, electronic, automotive,aerospace, and consumer products.Bachmann's adhesives changed theway many of the items used dailyare manufactured, helping compa-nies to become "green" manufactur-ers while becoming more competi-tive in the global marketplace.

The newlyreleased September 2008 PrecisionMetalforming Association (PMA)Business Conditions Report indicatesmetalforming companies expectbusiness conditions to weakensomewhat during the next threemonths. When asked what the trendin general economic activity will beduring this period, metalformersanticipated a slight decline. 53%predict activity will remain un-changed (compared to 52% lastmonth), while 31% forecast a de-cline in business conditions (up from28% in August). "Increased eco-nomic uncertainty in the credit andfinancial markets are having an im-pact on PMA members, giving themless confidence that there will beany rebound in orders and ship-ments in the fourth quarter," saidWilliam Gaskin, PMA president. Paul Fredericks and hiscompany Usona Metal Finishing Co.were indicted on federal chargesinvolving the illegal transportation,storage and discharge of hazardouswaste at the company’s Cuba, Mo.,plant, U.S. Attorney CatherineHanaway said Thursday. The indict-ment alleges that in April 2007, theUsona powder coating plant on Clin-ton Street ceased operations andthat Fredericks, 44, of St. Louis,directed the illegal transportation of drums of hazardous waste to hisplant in Cuba. Between April 2007and April 2008, approximately 100drums of hazardous waste wereillegally stored at the Cuba plant,and in April 2008, Fredericks alleg-edly directed the illegal discharge of those pollutants into the sanitarysewer drain at the Usona plant inCuba. If convicted, violations of theResource Conservation & Recovery Act carry a penalty range of two tofive years prison and/or fines up to$250,000; and violation of theClean Water Act carries a maximumpenalty of three years prison and/orfines up to $250,000.ers.
