Do you love to take photos? Does the thought of shooting video fill you with excitement? If so, then don’t miss the chance to have your work seen by a broad audience!
Pfeiffer Nature Center is preparing for their 3rd annual Film Festival, offered with the assistance of a Decentralization Grant from the NYS Council on the Arts. Although the Nature Center is located in and receives our funding through the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, Film Festival submissions are accepted from ten western New York counties. Submissions are encouraged from people of all ages and points of view. We want your interpretation of this year’s theme: Naturescapes.
In response to requests, we’ve added a new participation category this year - automated PowerPoint presentations. So now you can enter the Film Festival whether you prefer working in video or stills! Be sure your submission packs a punch, because brevity is key: submissions must be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes in length.
“The Film Festival is so much fun! We’ve had winning entries from 8 year olds and art teachers, college kids and grandmothers. With the addition of a category for still photography this year, lots more people will be able to enter,” said Margaret Cherre, Pfeiffer Nature Center Executive Director. “This competition is certainly not limited to people who consider themselves artists; we want everyone to enter! It’s a great opportunity to explore the outdoors from a different perspective, and then to publicly share your work.”
Winning films will be shown at a public viewing of the Nature Center’s Film Festival in fall, 2009. Prizes will be awarded in two categories (videos and automated PowerPoint presentations), and in as many as four age groupings in each category. With no entry fee required, there’s no reason not to submit!
For more information, submission guidelines, and an entry form, visit the Pfeiffer Nature Center web site at www.pfeiffernaturecenter.org/filmfest.html or call our office at 716-933-0187. Grab your camera and go outside!
Hon. Sharon S. Townsend, Administrative Judge for the 8th Judicial District, has been advised by the State’s Chief Administrative Judge, Honorable Ann Pfau, that the Bolivar Town and Village Courts have been awarded a $60,000.00 grant under the Office of Court Administration’s Justice Court Assistance Program. Each town and village court can apply for a maximum grant of $30,000.00 each. The Town and Village Courts of Bolivar jointly applied for a grant to expand the courthouse with an addition measuring 50 feet by 28 feet.
Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller, Supervising Judge of the Town and Village Courts, presented a check for $60,000.00 to Bolivar Town Supervisor Rick Gould on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Bolivar Town Hall. Judge Boller stated this was the largest award given out by the State to a Town or Village Court this year. Groundbreaking is expected to take place this Spring.

would like to thank the community, family and friends for their incredible support and kind expressions of sympathy during our recent loss. Our family deeply appreciates all your help. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
Donations for our troops overseas-Letters From Home Spring Drive for 2009 will start soon: March 2 to March 30, 2009. Letters from Home is a nonprofit (501C3) corporation dedicated to supporting our Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guards, Reservists and National Guard Troops stationed away from home. The program is run by dedicated volunteers from all over the USA and follows the guidelines of the Dept. of Defense at the Pentagon. Our theme for this campaign is “Here’s To Our Heroes”. The program is run with large decorated bags filled with letters, greeting cards, along with
Reader Advisory: the National Trade Association we belong to has purchased the following classifieds. Determining the value of their service or product is advised by this publication. In order to avoid misunderstandings, some advertisers do not offer “employment” but rather supply the readers with manuals, directories and other materials designed to help their clients establish mail order selling and other businesses at home. Under NO circumstance should you send any money in advance or give the client your checking, license ID, or credit card numbers. Also beware of ads that claim to guarantee loans regardless of credit and note that if a credit repair company does business only over the phone it’s illegal to request any money before delivering its

Something to eat: Granola bars, nuts, candy (no chocolate), gum, tuna in pkgs. individual units..Something to drink: Crystal Light, etc. also individual packets..Something personal: Toothpaste, dental floss, toothbrushes, shaving cream (no aerosol cans), razor blades, zip ties, fly traps, CDs, nerf balls, lip balm, playing cards, socks, and small toys...reading material: Letters, notes, greeting cards thanking the soldiers for the sacrifices they are making.

• According to the Crayola Company, you can eat 3,500 of its crayons a day and still not reach the level of toxicity found in an ordinary glass of drinking water. The company didn’t mention how - - or why -- anyone would consume that many crayons in a lifetime, let alone a single day.
• It was 19th-century British author Elizabeth Charles who made the following observation: “To know how to say what others only know how to think is what makes men poets or sages; and to dare to say what others only dare to think makes men martyrs or reformers -- or both.”
• Good news for junk-food lovers: Beginning in 1996, the United States Department of Agriculture started putting frozen French fries in the “fresh vegetables” category.
• Back in 1935, the owner of the Chicago Cubs baseball team predicted that night games were “just a fad.” He wasn’t much of a prognosticator, it seems.
• Some people claim that rubbing the nose of any statue of Abraham Lincoln is good luck. It’s not really known why, though; some speculate
because Lincoln’s children used to pull on his nose for luck. However, only one of his four children survived to adulthood, so it’s questionable whether his nose was ever lucky for anyone.
• The ubiquitous summertime flip-flop sandals are known in Australia as “pluggers,” are called “slops” in South Africa and “slippers” in Hawaii, and New Zealanders call them “jandals.”
• It’s been reported that on the morning of Friday, Nov. 22, 1963, an American psychic named Jean Dixon predicted, “Something dreadful is going to happen to the president today.” At 12:30 p.m. that day in Dallas, President Kennedy was assassinated.
