closely with Transport for London (TfL) to ensure thatLondon did not grind to a halt while Henlys Corner was being reconfigured.Residents raised the difficulty of crossing HendonLane at the junction with Hendon Avenue and askedthat the Council consider installing traffic lights.Resident A stressed the difficulties older residentsface when crossing roads in Finchley Church End.Cllr. Freer explained that the Council has no power toalter, insert or improve traffic lights or to alter routesfor through traffic as this is the responsibility of TfL.The Council can look into the option of traffic lightsalthough they are not always the solution thatresidents hope for as they imply to motorists that it isnot a residential area. A mini- roundabout would notwork as motorists usually drive over them.
PlanningIssue Action Resolution
Residents of Dollis Park stated their objections to theCouncil’s Planning Department’s recommendation for approval of a planning application for a gym to occupypart of this residential area. Residents believe theplans for a gym contravene current planningregulations and impact on residential parking as thepay and display parking bays remain empty.Cllr. Freer explained that a Controlled Parking Zone(CPZ) would not be an obvious solution to the parkingproblem because Finchley has a tube and bus stationand is much busier. These controls are under reviewas the Council has a rolling programme analysing thecurrent mix of residential, business and disabledparking bays within all CPZs in the Borough. TheCouncil consulted residents in the area as far downas Cyprus Road and they opposed a CPZ in the area. The consultation phase for Finchley Church End CPZConcerns over parking in Dollis Park in relation to theplanning application for a gym to be expressed toMike Freestone, Director of Environment andTransport and Stewart Murray, Director of Planning,Housing and Regeneration. The on-street parking situation would be investigatedas part of the review currently being undertakenregarding the existing controlled parking zones. Alocal consultation is expected to take place in theNew Year.
