t is good news for percussion lov-ers who will get to experience aseries of world class drum beats.Tabla maestro Bikram Ghosh andPete Lockett of Hollywood fame havereleased their maiden duet album,Kingdom of Rhythm. This albumstands out for the variety of instru-ments used.“The drums used in the album arefrom across the world – Japan, LatinAmerica, Africa and typical Indian in-struments – which includes the gha-tam, kanjira and tabla,” said Lockettwho was in Chennai.Their idea of coming up with an al-bum was just by chance and one cansense a lot of creativity when you hearit. Lockett recalls, “Both of us wereperforming in Kolkata for the last twoyears and eventually we planned tomake an album of all our composi-tions. Over the period, we continuous-ly worked to perfect it and at the sametime tried to make it as innovative aspossible. It was a big challenge as we werenot only editing and mixing our musicbut the album was made in San Fran-cisco, London and India. One of ourtracks also has the sound of cheeks ofGhosh and utensils from his kitchen.Ghatam Suresh and bass star Kai Eck-hardt of John Mclaughlin fame haveplayed for one of our tracks.”A video jointly directed by SugatoGuha and Riingoo for one of theirtracks, ‘Primal’, is made and for thefirst time the duo have rendered somechants for their songs. The Bengalimusic band, Dohar have also sung inthe album. The video is in the backdropof a journey around an imaginarykingdom and mythical space of kingsand warriors.Lockett says, “We enjoyed doing thechants and might have it in our nextalbum, which we plan some timesoon.”When asked about his future plans,Lockett, who has played on the drumsfor Rajinikath in
