INT – DUD’S SUDS – NIGHTThe opening scene to this film starts off in Dud’s Suds, adive bar in Dandle, Mississippi. The screen is black and theviewer has no idea really what is going on. Abby, 21, andHank, 24, are heard, as well as a raucous crowd in thebackground. Abby and Hank are discussing whether or not Abbyshould go up for open-mic night.HANK (OS)Why not?ABBY (OS)This isn’t my kind of crowd atall.HANK (OS)And every place you have toperform is gonna have yourkinda crowd?ABBY (OS)No, but—HANK (OS)Exactly. Win ‘em over.ABBY (OS)How?HANK (OS)With your goddamn beautifulvoice.ABBY (OS)I don’t know.

The picture now comes on the screen and it’s a shot ofAbby’s face. Her hair is long and brown. Her eyes are hazeland she is wearing dark red lipstick. She is wearing a blackblouse that could be worn as a short dress but she has jeanson under it. She closes her eyes to sing the chorus and thecamera stay on her throughout the entire song until the veryend.
