According to new study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, thepercentage of Internet users who use online social networks continues to grow. Andwhile social networks are still dominated by the young, the percentage of adults (18and older) using sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn has grownexponentially – from 8 percent in 2005 to 35 percent in 2008. Social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Black Planet and LinkedIn are onlinecommunities where people come together to share information, connect and stay intouch. According to Wikipedia, there are hundreds of social networks on the Web.Larger sites include MySpace, Facebook and BlackPlanet with 250 million, 150million, and 20 million members, respectively. In addition, thousands of nichenetworks focus on specific topics and/or cater to the needs of a specificdemographic. For example, Blogher (Blogher.com) is a social networking site for(you guessed it) women who blog. What is social networking data?
You can determine where your key stakeholders – donors, members, activists,volunteers, employees – live online by mapping their email addresses to sites onthe social web.Specifically, to append social networking data to your database:
